Be sure to stay after worship on Sunday, June 1 for a special Mission Fair. We will focus on how poverty affects our neighbors, from housing and food insecurity to quality of life and the wellbeing of our children. There will be interactive exhibits, food and simple hands-on service projects for all ages.
This year’s Fair will highlight the work of five Knox mission partners. We’ll introduce you to a different one in each weekly eNews. This week’s focus is on Cincinnati Urban Promise.
Cincinnati Urban Promise (CUP) is a vibrant social services organization at the corner of Harrison and McHenry Avenue — just down the street from Third Presbyterian Church. The organization is about 10 years old but is a newer mission partner for Knox. CUP is a hub for children in the neighborhood and provides daily preschool and afterschool programming and a popular summer school for children in the neighborhood. Its Food Pantry (affiliated with FreeStore Foodbank) brings healthy food to a neighborhood with very limited food store options. CUP is also “liftng up” this urban space. It received a land grant and is working with others to develop green space and community gardens on land behind public housing in the neighborhood. This partner allows us to further expand our aid in the East Westwood neighborhood.
