Join Knox: Pathway to Membership

We are happy to welcome you into membership of Knox Church! All who wish to take this deeper step on their journey of faith and discipleship of Christ are invited to join – there is a place for everyone in the Body of Christ.

The Pathway to Membership of Knox is offered three times per year – fall, winter and spring – and is comprised of 3 parts:

Part 1: New Member Class*

Part 2: Presbyterianism 101*

Part 3: New Member Welcome Sunday

*NOTE: Participating in either of the first two parts does not obligate you to join. We realize you may still be exploring membership and wish to learn more before committing. Please feel free to join us for any of our Pathway to Membership sessions and bring your questions! Also, if you wish to meet with a pastor to explore further, please contact Rev. Jana Reister at jreister@knox.org or at 513-321-2573, ext 106.

Pathway to Membership Dates

Part 1: New Member Class – This one-session class meets on a Sunday, 4-6:30pm, at a Knox member’s home in the Hyde Park area. (Childcare is available nearby at Knox Church upon request; please reserve by one week in advance to ensure we can secure staff.) At this casual interactive event, we will explore topics such as the significance of church membership, values and mission of Knox Church, stewardship of our gifts as disciples of Christ, and the Profession of Faith questions all new members affirm upon joining the church. Material from Theocademy.com (see below) will be incorporated. You will have the opportunity to meet others inquiring into membership, current members, staff, and Session members (the Board of Elders of Knox.) Snacks and beverages will be provided.

Pathway to Membership Resources

Theocademy: To support you on your path to membership, we encourage you to watch the videos of Theocademy for new members, entitled, “Being Presbyterian: Foundations of Presbyterian Discipleship.” This series of short videos, found here, helps unpack the meaning of the Profession of Faith questions that Presbyterians affirm at baptism, Confirmation, and when joining the church as an adult.

Profession of Faith By Those Uniting With a Congregation: Here are the questions we will explore at the New Member Class, and that new members affirm during worship on New Member Welcome Sunday.

1. Trusting in the gracious mercy of God, do you turn from the ways of sin and renounce evil and its power in the world?
2. Do you turn to Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, trusting in his grace and love?
3. Will you be Christ’s faithful disciple, obeying Christ’s Word and showing Christ’s love? Will you, with God’s help?

Fast(er) Track to Membership of Knox

At times, due to life circumstances, some people may wish to become members of Knox in between one of our 3 scheduled Pathway to Membership offerings. Although we encourage everyone to attend the New Member Class at some point, we are happy to discuss alternative times for joining. Please contact Rev. Jana Reister, jreister@knox.org, 513-321-2573, ext. 106.
