OK, Fat Tuesday — also known as Mardi Gras — is not officially part of Lent. But this delicious New Orleans feast is a traditional way to kick off the Lenten season, which starts the next day with Ash Wednesday. This all-church celebration starts at 5:30pm and ends at 7:30pm (just fine for a school night!) and includes a parade, a traveling magician, games, prizes — and lots of pancakes and traditional New Orleans food. All are welcome, and wear your green, gold and purple!
